Chocolate Protein Cake

Wyldsson very kindly sent me their awesome new Vegan Protein Powder this week. Powders - especially vegan ones - can sometimes taste a bit chalky or have a funny after taste ... this one absolutely doesn't and can be used as a direct replacement for cacao powder in chocolate cake recipes! Of course I had to test that theory out :)

400g self raising flour (I used gluten free)

2 heaped scoops of chocolate protein powder (Plant Protein by Wyldsson)

400ml almond milk

100g coconut sugar

150ml light olive oil

2 tsp baking powder


I used Wyldsson 'Nutella' Spread



Pre-heat the oven to 170C 

Add the flour, coconut sugar and baking powder to a large mixing bowl 

Add the protein powder and milk to a shaker bottle and shake

Add the protein drink and olive oil to the mixing bowl and combine together well

Pour the mixture into a greased springform cake tin and pop into the oven

Oven bake the cake for 25 - 35 minutes. After 25 minutes skewer the cake to check it's baked through. Leave a little longer if the skewer still comes out with chocolate on it

Remove the cake from the oven and allow to cool

Slice the cake in half and slather the base layer with Wyldsson nutella. Pop the top back on and spread more chocolate spread on the cake top

  • Hey Lisa, aaw yes they’re not delivering worldwide just yet. You can definitely make your own. I would use raw cacao, hazelnuts, coconut oil and maple syrup. In fact … let me have a play around with ingredients and I’ll add a new recipe for it to the blog :)

  • Unfortunately Wyldsson don’t deliver to Australia, I found a vegan recipe for Nutella which was; hazelnuts, Green n Blacks dark chocolate, maple syrup, coconut milk, salt, would that work? I wasn’t sure if the chocolate was allowed?! Thanks 😊
